Product Warranty and Guarantee Terms

Australian Consumer Law Guarantee

Our products are backed by guarantees that cannot be excluded under Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure, and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if they fail to meet acceptable quality standards and the issue does not amount to a major failure.

Warranty Coverage

Subject to the terms outlined below, Designer Doors Syd guarantees that all doors we manufacture are free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of five (5) years from the date of shipment. This warranty applies only when doors are used for their intended purpose and installed in accordance with our guidelines.

Terms and Conditions

Natural variations in colour, texture, or grain pattern of timber or MDF are part of the material’s unique character and are not considered defects. Doors must be handled responsibly and stored or installed in dry, ventilated areas - not in damp, newly plastered, or moist environments.

The structural strength or integrity of the door must not be compromised during fitting, hardware installation, trimming, or any modification for glass panels, louvres, or other detailing. A maximum of 5mm may be trimmed from any door edge, and this must be done evenly.

Slight visibility of frame components (“show-through”) is normal and not deemed defective. Doors up to 2040 x 820 mm require three hinges; larger doors require four hinges or a pivot system. Entrance doors and entrance systems must be installed in weather-protected areas.

Doors or door systems (including pivot doors) installed in exposed areas, or opening outward without sufficient protection from weather, are not covered under this warranty. Before installation, and immediately after fitting, the entire door (including top and bottom edges) must be sealed with a suitable paint or coating system — following the manufacturer’s recommendations. For staining, always use an exterior-grade varnish or sealer.

Semi-gloss or satin finishes are recommended to reduce show-through. Exterior finishes must be applied in strict accordance with the coating manufacturer’s instructions. Light, reflective colours are recommended to prevent excessive heat absorption, which can cause warping. Use of dark colours voids the warranty. Regular maintenance and refinishing are essential to maintain protection and appearance.

Remedy and Liability

Where legislation provides a remedy for breach of condition or warranty, Designer Doors Syd may, at its discretion, offer one of the following remedies:

  • Repair or replacement of the product.

  • Re-supply of the product or payment of the replacement cost.

  • Re-performance of services or reimbursement of associated costs.

Claims must be submitted in writing within seven (7) days of delivery. No claim will be accepted after this period.

Designer Doors Syd is not responsible for any secondary costs such as hanging, painting, or additional labour associated with the replacement of doors. Any defects must be reported as soon as discovered and within the warranty period. Repaired or replaced doors must have prior written approval from Designer Doors Syd.

We are not liable for defects resulting from failure to follow the above conditions, mishandling during shipment or storage, or misuse after delivery. Designer Doors Syd will not be responsible for personal injury, property loss, or consequential damages of any kind. Our liability is limited strictly to the remedies stated above.

Advisory Note

Damage can occur during transport, particularly to regional or interstate destinations. Special packaging is available at an additional cost to help protect against transit damage. Designer Doors Syd is not responsible for any damage incurred during shipping.

Interpretation of Warp

“Warp” refers to the cupping, bowing, or twisting of a door and relates to distortion within the door itself — not its alignment to the frame. Warp of up to 4mm for doors up to 2150mm high, and up to 6mm for doors between 2150mm and 2400mm high, is not considered a defect. Doors exceeding 2400mm in height or 1020mm in width are not covered against warp.

Exclusions

The warranty against warp does not apply to:

  • Doors with different species of veneer on each face.

  • Doors that are improperly hung or do not swing freely.

  • External flush doors painted or stained in dark colours or with differing colours on each face.

Warping is commonly caused by improper storage or high-moisture conditions after delivery. The warranty is void if the timber’s moisture content falls below 12% or exceeds 18%. Designer Doors Syd will not accept liability for damage caused by environmental conditions outside our control. However, if excessive warping occurs, we recommend contacting us promptly for assistance in rectifying the issue.
